This is a term position for 13 months with a possible extension of up to 4 years. The incumbent:
Assists in one or more phases of research process by performing a variety of technical duties in a laboratory environment, common to the assigned area of work.
Performs routine and recurring techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment.
Maintains, calibrates, and modifies equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples and supporting records.
Maintains records and locates and compiles data and other information from various sources.
Minimum
Qualifications:
GS-6: Must have at least one full-time year (12-months) of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service that included: helping conduct research laboratory-oriented plant science analyses; operating and maintaining analytical laboratory instruments and equipment including gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer; assisting with the testing and modification of methods in sample preparation, extraction and quantification of plant compounds to fit the needs of research objectives; collecting, tabulating, and summarizing data using computers, word processing, and statistical analysis software; performing assessments of plants or fruit in a post-harvest environment.
OR
Must have 1 year of graduate level education (18 Semester Hours) in plant science which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required by this position.
OR
Must have a combination of the specialized experience as described in A above and the education as described in B above such that when the two are added, they equal at least 100%. To determine your combination, first compute your experience as a percentage of the experience listed above; then determine your education as a percentage of the education listed above; then add the two percentages.
GS-7: Must have at least one full-time year (12-months) of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service that included: conducting research laboratory-oriented plant analyses; operating maintaining and evaluating results from analytical laboratory instruments and equipment including gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer; testing and modifying methods in sample preparation, extraction and quantification of plant compounds to fit the needs of research objectives; collecting, tabulating, analyzing and summarizing data using computers, word processing, and statistical analysis software; independently performing assessments of plants or fruit in a post-harvest field environment.
