Chelan Douglas County Volunteer Attorney Services Chelan Douglas County Volunteer Attorney Services Wenatchee, WA Wenatchee, WA Full-time Full-time $19 - $22 an hour $19 - $22 an hour 6 days ago 6 days ago 6 days ago Job Announcement Organizational Background and Mission Mission The mission of Chelan Douglas County Volunteer Attorney Services (CDCVAS) is to bridge the justice gap by facilitating high-quality, free, and equitable civil legal services to people in Chelan and Douglas counties experiencing poverty.
Vision We envision a thriving community where every person has fair and equitable access to justice.
Commitment Our vision and mission are grounded in our belief that every person deserves justice.
We are committed to continually reflecting on and adapting our services to equitably serve our constituents in an inclusive manner.
United for Equity and Justice Though our organization was founded on the principle of access to justice for all, we recognize that the promise of justice for all cannot be fully realized until WE acknowledge and unpack the history of systemic oppression and racism that created the need for access to justice.
Systemic oppression and racism are pervasive in the lives of the clients we serve.
Poverty, the qualifier for our services, is often the by-product of the oppression our clients experience.
This systemic oppression and racism show up in many ways, including the treatment of people of color in the courts, lack of access to health care, denial of educational opportunities, the impact of legal financial obligations, unfair labor and employment practices, and consumer and housing discrimination.
Again and again, race and systemic oppression are the determining factors in the disproportionate negative outcomes faced by people in poverty.
Though we are proud to be a part of an organization that is clearing a pathway to justice for the most impoverished, vulnerable, and oppressed in our community, we understand there is more to do.
To fully embrace our vision of Equity and Justice, we continue to take action to address the obstacles in the path.
For us, this includes individually and collectively educating ourselves about racial inequality, discrimination, and white privilege; examining our implicit biases; making changes to our policies, procedures, language and action to foster equity, inclusion and belonging.
